The conference brought together the best Lean experts

Over 200 participants, including executives, managers and academics participated in the first International Lean Conference in Brazil of Staufen Taktica. The Best Practice Day met on October 6th and 7th in Itupeva (SP), international speakers and experts Lean. With the theme, "Competitiveness is the challenge. Lean Transformation is the way", the event focused on the implementation of concepts, leadership training and management practice. For many participants it was a chance to meet the evolutionary Lean process and real changes within important industries operating in the country. The opening lecture of the Best Practice Day in Brazil brought Dr. Jeffrey Liker, author of numerous books on Lean, among them, "Toyota Way" and "Toyota Way to Lean Leadership", the professor emphasized the need to develop people and Lean culture to achieve high performance. "The Staufen has done an excellent job both times I attended the Best Practice Day in Germany. The conferences are serious and with a good mix, made up of academics, Lean experts and executives, combined with practical activities, and visits to companies. And there is time for celebration after the activities. I quite enjoyed the conference in Brazil ", he defined the event. Among the international speakers Beth Carrington, partner and master coach from W3 Group, drew attention to address the Toyota Kata- how to develop skills through the improvement kata and coaching. The participants also accompanied Hubertus Koehne, Manufacturing and Supply Chain VP at AGCO, about Lean leadership in practice. In the afternoon, the parallel sessions brought managers and specialists of companies with successful cases in Lean journey as Rogério Nakamoto, production manager of Mahle, and Alfonso Chaguri, Director of Supply Chain operations of 3M Brazil. Cesar Zanini, Director of quality management and PMO of Siemens, Claudemir Menezes, supervisor of Industrial Development of SEW-Eurodrive Brazil. Rodrigo Grando, engineering Logistics Coordinator at Manserv ; and Luiz Bohatch, Volvo’s engineering manager of Brazil. "The Best Practice Day is already a successful event in Europe, here in Brazil, for its first edition we selected themes to spark reflection on Lean in the country with the view of experts from other countries. At the same time, we invited speakers to present Lean successful models in best practices companies installed in Brazil”. Said Dario Spinola, Managing Director of Staufen Taktica. The schedule of the workshops was dedicate to themes aimed to develop skills and potential of continuous improvement. Each participant chose Lean Leadership, Toyota Kata, Lean Product Development and Lean Supply Chain. Two of thr workshops approached the topic Shop Floor Management, which happened the Schotts factory (Itupeva / SP) and Valtra (Mogi das Cruzes / SP), references in implementation of Lean concepts, a differential offered during the international conference. "I’m sure that the Best Practice Day in Brazil offered an important contributions and reflections on the Lean journey, strengthening Lean concepts and experiences," concludes Dario.
